Botanic Place, Cambridge

24 Flameshield 8524 S fire and smoke curtain systems specified for a development targeting BREEAM Outstanding. 

The Project

Botanic Place is the most significant commercial office development currently under construction outside of London. Located on Hills Road in Cambridge - directly opposite the city's historic Botanic Garden - the two-building development will deliver workspace designed to attract national and international businesses to one of the UK's most important innovation and technology clusters. 

Developed by Railpen and Socius and designed by Stirling Prize-winning architects AHMM, the project is targeting BREEAM Outstanding, WELL Platinum, and WiredScore Platinum certifications. The main construction and M&E fit-out contract has been awarded to Skanska UK. 

The Appointment 

A1S Group has been appointed to supply and install 24 Flameshield 8524S fire and smoke curtain systems across the development. The Flameshield 8524S provides 120 minutes of fire integrity and 85 minutes of radiation protection, with combined smoke-rated performance to BS EN 1634-3. Fully concealed within the ceiling void during normal use, the systems deploy automatically on activation which meet the compartmentation requirements of a high-specification, large-scale commercial development without compromising the architectural intent of AHMM's design. 

The appointment reflects A1S Group's established capability in delivering fire curtain solutions for major commercial construction projects, working alongside principal contractors of the calibre of Skanska UK.
