Flameshield Horizontal, active fire curtain.

Tested using the principles of BS EN 1634-1 2014

Our horizontal fire curtain is tested using the principles of BS EN 1634-1 2014, a safety barrier designed to prevent the spread of fire, smoke, and heat within a building by automatically deploying during a fire event. Unlike traditional vertical fire curtains that drop down from the ceiling, a horizontal fire curtain is installed in horizontal openings, such as atriums, staircases, or large spaces that require an unobtrusive fire barrier.

Key Features:

  1. Installation Position: Horizontal fire curtains are installed either in the ceiling or the floor and extend horizontally across an opening when activated.

  2. Activation Mechanism: They are usually connected to the building's fire detection system. When a fire is detected, the curtain deploys, by a push pull motor being pulled across the opening.

  3. Material: Made from fire-resistant materials, these curtains are capable of withstanding high temperatures and can resist the spread of fire for a 120 minute period,

  4. Applications: Commonly used in large atriums, shopping centres, airports, accommodation blocks, educational buildings and theatres where maintaining open spaces is essential but fire safety is still a concern.

  5. Design Flexibility: These curtains can be designed to retract back into concealed housings, making them nearly invisible when not in use, preserving the architectural integrity of the space.

Benefits:

  • Space-Saving: Because they operate horizontally, they can be installed in locations where vertical deployment would be impractical.

  • Aesthetic Integration: They can be concealed within the architecture, maintaining the design of the space while providing essential fire protection.

  • Effective Fire Containment: Helps prevent the spread of fire and smoke, providing more time for evacuation and reducing property damage.

Horizontal fire curtains are a critical component of modern fire safety strategies, particularly in buildings where large, open spaces are a key feature.
