The A1S Group is a leading UK manufacturer of Fire Curtain products, Smoke Curtains, Fire Shutters, Roller Shutters and Industrial Shutters. The Flameshield fire curtain range is now widely used by leading contractors and A1S works with 97 of the UK’s top 100 contractors. We have been manufacturing and installing these products for over three decades. Residential and commercial projects in Greater London now account for 40% of our UK supply and installation business and a London office and distribution centre is programmed for Summer 2020.
Our History
Established in 1986 by Carl Everest, the A1S Group originally entered the roller shutter market. At the time, Everest’s principal was simple, if easier said than done. Consistently offer a higher level of engineered quality and service than that which had previously existed in the marketplace.
Three decades later, the business has built a solid UK and international reputation for delivering world class products. It has also become well-known in the industry for carrying the highest of quality and compliance standards and providing exceptional service.
Our Facilities
Our head office in the North West includes 18,000 square feet of modern manufacturing space along with offices. There is an additional 14,000 square feet of storage which enables us to provide product and installation service throughout the nation. We deliver on time and on budget. A1S is programmed to open a London office and distribution centre in 2019.
Renovations completed in late 2018 include a bespoke mezzanine floor and powder coating facilities that have been streamlined. These improvements to our manufacturing plant provided us with an increased production capability for both our fire curtain and fire shutter ranges.
Our Product Design
Successful testing to BS 8524-1 for the Flameshield Fire Curtain Range resulted from recent research and development efforts. The testing represents a significant improvement on the Active Fire Barrier Assemblies requirements of EN BS 1634 and the A1S Group now leads the market with the UK’s first EW120 fire curtain, tested to C1 class.
The Flameshield BS 8524 fire curtain range successfully passed the rigorous BS 8524 impact testing, surface spread of flames, durability, motor testing and cyclic testing standards.

2019 Case Study
Working with world famous John Simpson Architecture (famed for neo-classical refurbishments including Buckingham Palace, Eton College, Kensington Palace and Palazzo Grimani in Venice) and specialist contractor Gilbert Ash, the A1S group has demonstrated product excellence and value for money. Unsurprisingly, competition for this package was intense but in the end, the A1S Group was selected for the installation of life safety fire curtains within the iconic Royal College of Music building in Kensington, London. A1S proposed Flameshield fire curtains, tested in accordance with BS 8524-1, with multi stage control panels, egress and access switches, obstruction warnings and smoke performance to BS 1634-3.
